Original Air Date: Match 27, 2012
The screen spans the sold out Grounds in St. Louis. With the arena sold out, packed wall to wall, Undaunted by Adrenaline Mob starts to play. Fireworks shoot from the ramp as the crowd goes crazy in anticipation. The scene spans to the announce table where you see a sideways shot of JJ Adams and Johnson McConnell. Then it pans to the ring before scanning the crowd.
Suddenly Under And Over It by Five Finger Death Punch starts to play. The crowd gives a hot, but mixed reaction. The hate for Field showing, but the opening of Redemption gives him some slight cheers. Tony Field steps out on the ramp wearing his designer jeans and button up shirt. Field, with a smirk on his face, makes his way down to the ring. Walking up the ring stairs, he looks all business as he slides between the ropes with a microphone in hand. He stand center ring, waiting for the hot crowd to settle down. Finally he starts to speak.
Tony Field: Welcome to the premiere of Redemption.
The crowd pops.
Tony Field: Tonight is a fresh start for many people. After the closure of PWA I bought up as many of their assets as I could, filed the paperwork, and obtained what of their roster I felt I could work with, and voila, here we are. Now I know a lot of you were around for Tremor, hell, it was in this same arena. But Tremor fell apart around me, thats when I figured out the error of my ways. Yeah, I love running the day to day, but Im a business man. Someone needs to cover that aspect of things. So its with great regret and apologies that I let you know that I will not be running the shows. My place will be behind the scenes.
The crowd pops at the prospect of not having Fields nonstop interference in the federation. Field just shakes his head, not sure of what to make of the reaction, but then he presses on anyway.
Tony Field: Now with my staying behind the curtain, I needed someone who knows the business, knows how to run a show, and knows how to demand the respect of the roster. So I want to introduce you to the commissioner and show runner of Redemption, my former trainer, Derek Daughtery.
What About Us by Ministry starts to play as the crowd pops for the other St. Louis native and wrestling legend Derek Daughtery steps out, decked out in a suit. The large towering man walks down to the ring, climbing between the ropes, then stands center ring shaking the hand of Tony Field. Derek stands there a moment then finally addresses the crowd.
Derek Daughtery: Hello St. Louis
The crowd pops.
Derek Daughtery: God how I love being back in front of a live crowd. Now this is a wrestling show, not a talk show, so Ill get right down to business. Tony has given me full authority here. Now my first business is we have three titles we have to figure out what to do with. So tonight, to introduce Redemption, Ive created a six wrestler tournament. Tonight, youll see three matches. The winners of those three matches will go on to fight in a triple threat match next week, the winner becoming our first reigning Redemption Champion.
Derek pauses letting the crowd soak it in before he goes on.
Derek Daughtery: So tonight, in our qualifying round, youll see Zakk Bryce face off against Chase Martelle.
The crowd pops at the prospect of these two wrestlers.
Derek Daughtery: Youll also see Victor Jace square off against wrestling veteran and mat specialist Stephen Rawlings.
The crowd pops again, getting excited about the tournament.
Derek Daughtery: And in the final match, we are gonna pit two men together who know one another like the back of their hands. Youll see Muru vs Ryan Shane.
The arena explodes in cheer.
Derek Daughtery: Now, lets get on with the show.
What About Us starts to play again. Derek passes the mic off to a stage hand, turns to Tony. Tony nods toward the ropes and the two men climb out of the ring and start to make their way to the back as Daughterys music plays.
Immediately following Tony Field's announcement, the feed quickly cuts to a shot somewhere backstage of a door creaked slightly ajar. Standing in front of the door is Suzy Stiles looking rather enticing for the pilot show in a short, black, sequined dress. Her hair is tied back in a classy bun held in place with two black chop sticks. Suzy lifts a microphone up to her ruby red lips and begins speaking excitedly.
Suzy: Oh my god, ok... um, so are we on? We are? Ok oh... yeah, I'm like out here backstage in front of the personal dressing room of one of my all time favorite women's wrestlers! I'm standing in front of none other then Chase Martelle's dressing room. I'm like totally excited to meet her! I've been a fan for like ever! The door seems to be opened so let's go in and see how a diva like Chase gets ready for a match!
Suzy smiles and beckons for the camera to follow her as she casually opens the door to Chase Martelle's dressing room. As Suzy enters, she stops dead in her tracks as the camera zooms in closer to reveal Chase apparently in the middle of arguing with herself. Suzy looks back at the camera, a look of bewilderment brazen upon her face as it is all too apparent to anyone watching that she's unsure of what to do.
Meanwhile, upon closer examination; Chase appears to be staring into a mirror with her back turned towards the camera. Unaware that itis capturing every word she's saying, Martelle ignorantly engages in her argument... with herself.
Chase: No goddamnit! I'm in control, not you, Bitch!
A brief moment of silence passes until suddenly, Chase is seen shaking her head in defiance of something that's fallen upon her ears only.
Chase: No, I'm not doing that! You know I can't, Bitch!
Another awkward moment of silence passes. Chase is then seen shaking violently almost as if she's becoming enraged by something. She suddenly begins to yell out loud which frightens Suzy in the process.
Chase: Screw you, Bitch! I don't need you to succeed! I'm in control and I'll do just fine without you! I'M IN CONTROL! I'M IN CONTROL, BITCH!
Without warning, Chase rips the mirror from its perch, smashing it on the hard tiled floor. As the mirror shatters into pices on the floor, Suzy shrieks in fear; causing Chase to take notice of her and the camera crew behind her. The sight of Suzy and the cameraman sends Martelle into a frenzy as she begins to lash out at both of them verbally.
Chase: What the hell are you idiots doing in my dressing room, huh!? What did you see!? How much of that was recorded, huh!? Didn't you're good for nothing MOTHER TEACH YOU TO KNOCK BEFORE YOU ENTER SOMEONE'S ROOM YOU STUPID WHORE!
Before Suzy can react, Chase as at her throat, trying to squeeze the life out of her. Suzy kicks and flails in futility, as she is unable to fend Chase off. Seconds later a staff of security personnel is in the room and struggles to pull Martelle off of Suzy. As the syruggle continued, Shan Harper and Travis Trussler enter the room and are able to finally help pull Chase off of Suzy. As they do, Suzy slumps to the floor; gasping desperately for air. The camera pans off of Suzy and back onto Chase as the three members of security, Shan and Travis carry Martelle out of the room while she continues to struggle against them and wail out the same phrase over and over again.
Chase: I'm In Control! I'm In Control! I'm in Control!
Derek Daughtery just settles into his office not long after his in-ring introduction to the company when the door to his office bursts open. Derek jumps to his feet, but just as he does he makes eye contact with his boss and Redemption owner, Tony Field. Field doesnt say a word, he simply strides over to Derek, reaches into his back pocket, and pulls out a folded up white lined piece of notebook paper and slaps it down on Dereks desk. Derek looks to Field, then to the paper as he starts to unfold it, absentmindedly talking to Tony as he does.
Derek Daughtery: Whats this?
Tony Field: The solution to the Heavyweight belt.
With the paper unfolded, Derek glances over, finding a set of hand drawn brackets. After looking them over, he looks back up at Field.
Derek Daughtery: I thought I was the commissioner. I thought this was my show to run.
Tony Field: It is your show to run, but as a part of my company. Think of yourself as the offensive coordinator and Im the head coach.
Tony shrugs.
Tony Field: Im lettin you do as you wish here with the other two belts, but this big belt, it represents Redemption, so I figured Id give you a nudge in the right direction. Youre looking at your nudge.
Derek Daughtery: Tony, all due respect, but this undermines my authority here. If this is what you want, why do you even need me?
Tony Field: Hey, youve got some freedom with this. Do with it what you will.
Derek Daughtery: Oh do I? Looks like theres nothing left to chance to me.
Tony Field: You do. Hell, if you really look I even gave you freedom over your own little pet project here.
Derek gives Tony a curious look, so Field presses on.
Tony Field: Look, Im not stupid. Youre the one that pressed for Ravyn to be signed. Had it been up to me, shed either stayed in retirement or walked her long legs out here in a dress each week to be a little eye candy. But I signed her on your word. I know you two have history, and I know that history very well. So I left her road to the belt in your hands. You find her first opponent. Someone in the company, sign someone new, doesnt matter to me. I did that for YOU.
Derek Daughtery: Oh, gee, thanks for throwing me a bone. So I get what? One match out of all of this? And you act as if Im supposed to screw her or hand her a win. I refused to do it. I want things thing as fair as humanly possible.
Derek points to something else on the bracket.
Derek Daughtery: And what the hell is this? Terminus with a bye all the way to the third round?
Tony smirks and shrugs yet again.
Tony Field: What can I say? Hes our guy around here. Hes our best bet to win that belt if you want this company off on the right foot.
Derek shakes his head.
Derek Daughtery: This is ridiculous. Youre clipping my authority.
Tony Field: Look, Derek, after I walk out that door, you do as you please. I wont interfere, its your show. And book the matches as you want, when you want, how you want. Rush a tournament and get me a champion in a week or two, slow it down and give me a champion a couple months down the road. I dont care. But you WILL follow my brackets I want or Ill find someone who will. Ive got an entire stack full of resumes back in my office, all of whod love to have your job here.
Tony sighs.
Tony Field: I like you Derek, I really do. Believe it or not I got respect or you. Hell, D, you trained me and broke me into this business. And yes, you run the show here. But you still work for me, so dont be surprised if I do pop in from time to time to shake things up. Understood?
Derek nods his head, Tony smirks and turns, leaving the commissioners office. Once the door is closed Derek angrily shoves a stack of papers of his desk, sending them flying across the room to the floor as he lets out a deep, ire driven sigh.
Derek Daughtery: What the hell am I getting myself into here?
'Spit it out' begins to play over the loud speaker as the lights turn blue, shrouding the entire arena in a creepy glow. A rather bulky image can be seen standing at the head of the ramp, his arms resting on his side as the lights come back on, revealing Victor Jace and his constantly sadistic smile. With an arrogant strut, he begins his descent to the ring, climbing up the stairs and going inbetween the ropes as the fans begin to show their hatred for him. With a proud loon on his face, he leans over the top rope and receives a microphone from the time keeper.
Victor Jace: Redemption. What a wonderful name this place has. Fitting to. As I'm sure you're all aware, my final match under the Premiere Wrestling Alliance banner was won under unflattering circumstances. Despite my superiority despite the fact that I knew there was no way I could lose, I was pressured into doing something so unbefitting of my character that I vomited as soon as I got backstage. Despite the fact that I could not lose, I was driven to cheat. I don't know if it was the shots to the head with my protective mask, the low blow, or the DDT into the shards of plastic, but I felt disgusted that I had to resort such low tactics...
Jace pauses for a moment to stare at the ground, truthfully embarrassed by what he had just said.
Victor Jace: That's why I've come here, to Redemption. I came here because I felt the need to redeem myself, I felt the need to prove to everybody that, while I am still the Heir to Hardcore, I do not need to cheat in order to win a normal match-up. My opponent tonight will be the first step in my Redemption, my acquisition of the Redemption Title will signify that I have completely redeemed myself. Stephen Rawlings, I'm sorry, but we both know that you had no chance of beating me anyway. We both know that you're just some pre-requisite placed in front of me, and I'm in a way I'm glad. After I defeat you tonight, and am crowned Redemption Champion next week, I'll be sure you get the first title shot as a thank you. Now get your ass out here and let's start this thing...
Jace casually tosses the microphone over the top rope to his side, as 'Natural High' by Insolence begins to play. Almost instantaneously, Rawlings appears at the top of the stage and wastes little time in making it to the ring. The two men take their corners and await the ringing of the bell.
Johnson McConnell: What's his deal? There's nothing wrong with cheating...
JJ Adams: I don't agree with that, at all.
The referee rings the bell and the two instantly lock up in the center of the ring. Jace quickly gains the advantage due to his larger frame and whips him into the ropes. Rawlings comes back and is driven hard into the mat with a clothesline. He raises back to his feet almost instantly and manages to drive a right hand into the side of Jace's head, causing him to stagger slightly as it catches him off guard. Rawlings follows it up with two more right hands, and then quickly wraps his arms around Jace's waist and nails a belly to belly suplex.
JJ Adams: Nice Suplex there, he could have this if he covers.
Johnson McConnell: Are you kidding me? Did you not hear what Jace just said? No way is this over yet...
JJ Adams: Looks like we'll see!
Rawlings quickly hooks the leg of Jace but he manages to kick out at one. Wanting to wear him down, he shoves Victor's shoulders back to the mat and covers him again. Once more, Jace manages to kick at one and this time rolls out from under Rawlings and gets to his feet. The two meet dead center in the ring once again, and Jace quickly takes control with a boot to the stomach. Rawlings doubles over and pain and Jace lifts him straight up into the air with a vertical suplex, before dropping him back first across the mat. Jace pivots his hips and lifts him back up, before repositioning himself Rawlings and driving him hard into the mat with a German Suplex.
Johnson McConnell: Nice combo by Jace.
JJ Adams: Yeah, he's really showing us his determination here tonight.
Jace lifts Rawlings back up, but Rawlings greets him by headbutting Jace hard in the chin. Victor staggers backwards into the ropes and Rawlings quickly sends a flurry of punches and chops into the chest and face of Jace. Wanting to capitalize on his momentum, he whips Jace into the turnbuckle and charges inwards and smashing Jace into the corner with a huge splash. He then grabs a hold of Jace and attempts a Russian Leg Sweep, but Jace manages to elbow him a few times and counter it with a Front Russian Leg Sweep.
Johnson McConell: Looks like somebody has been naturally selected!
JJ Adams: Well, you seem to be a fan of his so I'm sure you know what's coming next then!
Jace follows up by quickly locking in the STS, leaving Rawlings out of reach of the ropes. He struggles for a few seconds in an attempt to break the hold, but with nowhere to go, he is forced to tap the mat and give up.
Johnson McConnell: Just like that, Jace wins it! He made Rawlings his bitch!
JJ Adams: I thought it was pretty close, actually...
Johnson McConnell: You would...
